Envelopes

Envelopes are a way of categorizing your expenses. You should have one envelope for each expense such as "Rent" "Groceries", "Utilities", etc. When you receive money you place it into an envelope, when you need money to pay an expense you take it out of the appropriate envelope. Envelopes can be grouped for similar expenses; you could have a group envelope "Utilities" with contained envelopes of "Electric", "Phone", etc. Any envelope you create exists in all of the bank accounts. It has a balance for each account and a net balance that is the total of the balances for that envelope in all accounts.

All envelopes are displayed for each account. Main envelopes display with a standard envelope graphic, group envelopes display with a group envelope graphic, and contained envelopes display directly below the group they are part of with a standard envelope graphic.

Touch a group envelope to either show or hide it's contained envelopes.

Touch a standard envelope to show it's transaction history and create transactions in that envelope.

Touch a standard envelope to select or deselect it. When selected an envelope's transaction history and statistics are displayed in the bottom half of the display. If no envelope is selected, the history and statistics shown are for the entire selected account.

Displayed Data

The top line of the envelope display shows the envelope name and the balance in that envelope in the currently selected account, green for a positive amount and red for a negative amount. The bottom line shows the budgeted amount graph and the net balance for the envelope. Any icon set for the envelope will be displayed on the left.

The envelope display consists of three lines, the envelope name, the envelope balance, and the budgeted amount graph with the net balance. Any icon set for the envelope will be displayed on the bottom left.

Note: The "Net" is the balance in the envelope for all accounts. Touch and hold the net balance to show the envelope's balance in each account.
